A quick word on the lasses’ new digital release today, Saishūheiki, kimi (You’re the Ultimate Weapon). All hell broke loose on YouTube pretty much at midnight JST today. There were comments ranging from WTF is this noise to SCANDAL died after BLEACH. Like, really.

This anthemic-sounding song is written by MAMI and words by RINA. The intro was surprisingly pretty heavy for a SCANDAL tune. MAMI’s guitar was heavily distorted and TOMOMI’s bass sounded massive. You’d think from the song RINA would be hitting the skins pretty head, but she was kinda looking pretty on the MV. (A bit) disappointed.

HARU is guitarless and her voice is autotuned in the main verses for effect. Some people don’t seem to like it, but fair enough. I think it goes well with the electronic-esque vibe the song is giving. As I listen to songs by dissecting the parts according to the instruments, I had paid less attention to the lyrics. Verdict: a return to form, albeit much heavier and kicks some serious arse – which is a plus point as far as I am concerned. Makes Fuzzy seem like a bad dream.
