I’ve done a couple of SCANDAL drum covers before but this is my first post on such an endeavour on this blog. I don’t admit to being a drummer (let alone a good one) but it’s an instrument I am somewhat keen on when I’m bored with the guitar. I’ll post about the older covers in due course but I just wanna talk about this one I did recently, especially with it being from the current record, YELLOW.

ヘブンな気分 is my fav song on this record, hands down. I can’t really put a finger on why that is so – whether it’s due to the grungy feel to it that evokes the memories of my, err… youth, or it’s just because this is pretty much off kilter for the lasses to play something other than pop/rock/punk (or whatever it is SCANDAL feels like being).

Just to quickly go through the set up I did on this cover. Unlike the newer V-Drums, my kit has only one user preset which has been tweaked to an optimal sound that I like. I had to tune down the snare and toms for this to suit the pre-recorded song. The analogue output goes into my M-Audio FW Solo which is connected to my Macbook, and recording is via GarageBand.

The GoPro was hooked up just near the floor tom using a Jaws flex clamp mount (it grips pretty much anything), and I used FCPX to edit the recorded video.

I had learnt the song roughly before, and on the night I did a little practice for about 30 minutes before using the third take.
